HOW TO READ IT

Is the river rising or falling?

RISING

Look for slower edges

Try inside bends, bank seams, sheltered island edges and slower side channels. Add depth and weight a little at a time.

STABLE

Start with the usual seasonal approach

When releases settle, familiar runs can become more dependable. Check the seasonal hatches and try the water where riffles deepen into runs.

FALLING

Check the shallower water again

Fish may leave edges that were covered at higher flows. Try a shorter rig or less weight as the water gets shallower and clearer.
